May I ask a question... I was reading again about internet preaching not being canonical and how it can never be. It all sounds very logical. But I have this question: What's the difference in that sense between creating Orthodox internet content and writing, say, a book? Especially now with self-publishing... But even before that. Why is writing a book or an article for some publication (which we grew up reading and still do) OK, but internet content is not? Where are the boundaries that create that difference?

That’s a great question. I’d suggest that the like is theology: teaching about what the Church is and is not, explaining the Scripture, etc. these are all things that are the responsibility of the Church through the local bishop, who guides things in his diocese.

Books and such have existed for centuries, and the Church has never had to recon with how that works with the canons because we’ve always had a canonically well-ordered Church.

That is, until we arrived in America and created a series of overlapping jurisdictions. So now, people can pick and choose what they mean by “Orthodoxy.”

If anything, the current mess we’re in should prompt us to rethink how we order ourselves, what’s appropriate, etc.

Thanks Steve. Hoping we can all pierce our buffered selves a little bit today to let the Lord in.
